SD=HS joined today the launch of the Access to Seeds Index Regional Landscaping Reports for Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) and Western and Central Africa (WCA), during the 7th Session of Africa Regional for Sustainable Development of the UN Economic Commission for Africa. The reports provide the benchmark for the 2021 Access to Seeds Index.
Speaking on bahlf of the SD=HS program, Harrie Oostingh expressed the hope that the 2021 index will show an improvement in the scores of seed companies on their support for small holder farmers in Africa – especially when compared to the previous index in 2019.
The key message of the panel was that smallholder farmers should not be seen as only customers of seeds, but receive acknowledgement and support for their knowledge and work to improve farmers’ seeds systems.
